2009-11-08 12:00 PM

Kick off the training program with a bang!

We strongly encourage carpooling, since parking there is very limited. Amigos does not set up the carpools, VOLUNTEERS should set up their own rides. ROSTER

What to bring:
FORMS- Confidential Health Form I (in a sealed envelope) and the Letter of Medical Disclosure MUST BE TURNED IN
Sleeping Bag, pillow, etc
Overnight change of clothes
Jacket/sweatshirt (it gets cold at night!)
Water bottle
Note pad and a pen
Your smiling faces!

It is very important that you arrive ON TIME (or early!). We have a guest organization called Challenge Day which will be facilitating the first half of our retreat. They have emphasized the importance of starting their program with everyone present at the beginning. Please contact Tessa (916-580-5623; tjartale@ucdavis.edu) or Todd ASAP if you are taking the SAT or will not be able to arrive on time! Also feel free to contact us with any questions!!

PARENTS (volunteers take note): you may have noticed that we CC'd you instead of writing directly to you. This is because we require all of the volunteers to arrange their own logistics for chapter events. The training staff (Tessa, Todd, or any of the trainers) DOES NOT receive any phone calls, e-mails, messenger pigeons, facebook wall posts, or any other communiqué from parents regarding logistics!!! (we are always happy to answer any questions you may have about the projects, training, etc) If you do call or write we will ask for the volunteers to call back and repeat any requests. Our reasoning for this is the volunteers will be going on this trip and not the parents. They will be in charge of their own scheduling during the summer... and what better time to practice then now?

Finally, I would like to introduce our expectations for attire during all retreats (does not apply to chapter meetings):
In the field Amigos volunteers represent our organization, our partnering agencies, and the US as a whole. Volunteers will be seen as health workers and as professionals. Because of this, we expect volunteers to present themselves appropriately. We believe that this should be reflected during training for two reasons: 1) to practice for the summer and 2) we often have guest speakers and we would like to maintain a consistent message of professionalism here and abroad. We ask that dress be semi-professional (California casual): ie, pants (jeans ok, but no holes or grundge), longer skirts, conservative tops (no low cuts, no t-shirts, button down ok but not necessary),  etc.  This is to show that not only do we take Amigos seriously, but we take our participation in Challenge Day seriously. (suit and ties are not necessary at all...) Clarification- You should not be buying any new clothes for this. Find something in your closet.

Can't wait to see you all there :)
